Create Your Own Happiness
I have a Dove wrapper taped to the computer in my office that says, "Today is your day."
I know that sounds SUPER cliche, but it's something that keeps me going on some of my hardest days.
Typically as I get ready for work in the morning I give myself a few hours from the time my alarm goes off to the time I need to be in my car and on the road to work. I use this time to get the corners of my mouth going up instead of down. Sometimes this involves a little dance party in the shower (I know maybe a little too much TMI, but you gotta admit we've all been there) and sometimes it just includes some meditation as I read my scriptures or listen to a conference talk. Maybe it's all of the above, but I do something for me to make myself happy.
Something I've learned this year is that I have to create my own happy.
At the start of the year I found myself in this rut where I wasn't necessarily sad, but I wasn't happy. I was just kind of going through the motions. I think it's something we tend to fall victim to all too often.
But when people or things leave, where does that leave us? If we aren't comfortable being us or happy being us, then what are we?
If you've been following my life at all this year you've seen I've been doing a lot of crazy adventuring. I've been "unsupervised" as my mom would call it. I've been just having fun. Seeing new things, doing new things, and even redoing things I've done before. I've been doing it alone and with other people.
People keep asking me "why" and I really don't have an answer except..
It makes me happy!
I have found that my happiness comes in these moments. Big or small moments. Moments at new places, moments at old places. Moments with those I love, or moments alone. Joyful moments where I can take in life, realign myself, and just be my own happiness.
2019 has truly been an interesting year of finding myself and making each day my day.
