Are You Listening

Image
Today I am sick... Not like mentally or with society (though who knows maybe I am that way too but that's besides the point). Today I am physically sick & let's just say it's because I don't listen. I know you're probably all confused here because usually my blogs make more sense by now but hold on. I promise I have a point. As we all know from previous posts, I'm a control freak & a bit of a perfectionist. It happens. I like things my way & when I want them. And as we all know, so does God. Because of this "flaw" of mine I tend to run around like a maniac 25/8 bossing people around & making sure my life (& everyone else's) is in order. But as my mom tends to tell me QUITE frequently, "You can't fix everyone." The past few weeks have been exactly as I've stated above. I've been going crazy. From work, to church callings, to the gym, to my mission assignments. I've rarely been home except to s...

10 Things to Know if You're Considering a Young Church Service Mission

In September 2016 I was called to serve a Young Church Service Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. With the recent amount of questions I've received I decided to do 10 things to know if you're considering a YCSM (or if anyone you know is). A Young Church Service Mission is Adapted to the Needs of the Missionary/Community - Missions are terrifying (I know, I'm serving one) but the great thing about this mission is your input. Your needs are so important. You can actually pick a few places you might want to serve (within reason) & discus those with your mission leader. Though our efforts are to serve, we also focus on the missionary & make sure they can serve to their highest capacity. Missionaries are asked to be prayerful when discussing their assignments & other callings throughout the mission. You can change the mission, you can influence the missionaries. Don't doubt your impact. If you have the desire to serve, DO IT - Before...

The Joy of Being Uncomfortable

Image
I had a wonderful discussion with a sweet lady earlier this week & we got on the topic of being uncomfortable. Not like the tightness of your shoes or clothes uncomfortable, but with where you are in life uncomfortable. With it being the New Year & there being A LOT of New Year's resolutions going around I'm sure a lot of them are because you didn't like where you were in 2016. You didn't like who you were in 2016. Maybe these resolutions are making you uncomfortable now? Maybe you're on the verge of giving up? Maybe you already have given up? Maybe you're frustrated because you didn't realize how hard this was going to be? Let me start be saying, it's OKAY to be uncomfortable. How many of us have heard a story (or maybe you have done this yourself) of someone going dress shopping for a very important occasion & when you try on a certain size it fits great. Cool. So, you get a size smaller. Why not right? I mean, you can lose a whol...

Hello 2017

Image
Good-Bye 2016!! What a year you have been! And not just to me, but to the media & some of our favorite people of fame. You've had your ups, & your downs. You've brought sadness & joy, fear & courage, loss & gain, & many other things I don't have time or space to list. Before you are just a figment of our memory, never to be spoken of again, I just wanted to say "Thank you." Thank you: For introducing me to some of my favorite people, For teaching me to have a little more faith, For showing me what it's like to love, & to feel loved, For teaching me to endure, & showing me the joy in enduring joyfully, For reminding me how to be like a child & have fun, For showing me the joy of service, For reminding me that in the midst of trials, there is always hope, And, for helping me remember the joy of family. The...
