A Little Bit of Copper

The last week & a half of my life has been extremely exciting. From deciding to do a service mission & taking the steps necessary to get that in action, to actually seeing the progression of it falling into place, I have been on cloud 9!!

As I have been doing all of this though & working on my spiritual progression, this morning I decided I needed to work on some physical progression & go on a run. I figured I hadn't gone in a few month & the only working out I have been doing is soccer one night a week so I need to get back into shape.

So... I ran.

For those of you who run you know the way it works:

1: Make the decision to run
2: Sit around working up the motivation to run
3: Change into running clothes & sit around for another hour convincing yourself that you need to run
4: Tell yourself "I AM RUNNING GOSH DANG IT"
5: Start your run & hate yourself
6: Hate yourself some more
7: Finish your run & feel like you can take over the world

At least that's how it worked for me this morning... & every other time I try to run (it may or may not have taken me close to 2 hours to actually go running).

So I'm running & thinking to myself that I'm so dumb for doing this & that this is literal hell & all those typical things you think as you start running. Then as I come down the first big hill I look down & see a penny.

You may be thinking, "So..."

Well it reminded me of a story you may have seen on Facebook or another social media site. It talks about a rich business man taking out one of his employees for dinner & on the way he sees a penny on the ground so he picks it up. The employee wonders why he would pick it up as he's rich & has no reason for something so simple & of little worth. So he then asks his employer for his reasoning. The employer says that on the penny it says, "In God We Trust," & the name of God should never be on the ground like that. So, he picked it up. As I thought about that while working on my second lap, I decided I would pick up the penny on my way around, so I did.

I think running can suck a lot & life can even suck quite a bit, but it also depends on your attitude & what you do with it. If I would have left that penny on the ground no one would have known but me & I probably would have forgotten about it by the end of my run, but I think sometimes we just need a little dirty penny to remind us to be happy & stay positive. It's not just the fact that I picked up the penny, but what I end up doing with it.

"Find a penny pick it up & all day you'll have good luck"

I hope you find a little bit of "copper" lining today & even if it's just a little penny, pick it up. Maybe it'll bring you a small amount of good luck today!!
