One year older... AND wiser too?
Man does time fly. As I sit here, I look back at what this last year has had to offer me and what I accomplished throughout.
It's crazy to think that the year is already coming to an end. Depending on your perspective you could be thinking about how it was just May (the thought in my mind right now), or how it feels like it was just the year 2000, or if you're a mother you may be thinking it's crazy that your children or as old as they are, because face it, you're not a day over 21.
I still can't believe that I myself am 19. I swear I was just a freshman in high school, but nope, I'm a sophomore in college! I've been thorough a lot this year from making decisions happily and from making them through tears. All I can say is that I've definitely learned a lot over the past year.
I've learned that you don't have to be strong all the time. It's really okay to ask for help.
I've learned to let go and have fun. Sometimes when you're up all night doing dumb childish things is when you have the most fun, like going to Denny's after a movie at 3 am. :)
I've learned to never give up. The Lord doesn't give us more than we can handle. You may have to take that leap of faith, but the Lord will catch you. He always does.
I've learned that you gotta just get back up. Sometimes we stumble, and sometimes we fall. In the end no one records how many times a child falls when trying to walk, they record them getting up and walking away. You are stronger than you think.
I've learned who true friends are. They may be hundreds of miles away, or right around the corner, but they'll be there when you need them.
I've learned that others can't make me happy. Well, they can, but not forever. People will definitely piss you off, it happens. Be happy for you. Choose to be happy.
I've learned that I am a beautiful daughter of God. Am I perfect? No way. Do I like the way I look all the time? Not a chance. Do I know to whom I belong? Yes. Do I know that He doesn't make mistakes? Absolutely. So no, I'm not the prettiest girl out there, but I'm definitely beautiful. And as long as I see it, it doesn't matter who doesn't.
Most importantly (in my book) I've learned that sometimes what you want to do in life isn't what you're supposed to do. If I was where I wanted to be at this point in my life I would be playing soccer at UNLV, or BYU, or another 4 year college. I wouldn't be in California, and I also wouldn't have met certain people who have changed my life for the better. I've learned the Lord works in mysterious ways. Never could I have imagined loving California as much as I do. But I do. I'm happy with where I am.
Yes, 2013 is almost over. Another year has gone by and you may not have accomplished all that you wanted to or hoped to. But where you are now is where you are meant to be. The Lord has a plan for all of us we just need to listen.
